Anyone trying the beta of this new MMO? I've been checking it out and it looks pretty cool. http://na.aiononline.com/en/ Basically you can go to Gamestop or wherever and pay 5 bucks for the preorder and they'll give you access to the beta. I really want to try it. I quit WoW a couple months ago and I'm looking for something to fill a little of my time. What do you guys think about it? Releases officially on September 22.
A couple screenshots (all I could find on google):

My friend is super excited for it, but he plays every MMO released.
I don't know, it doesn't look all that fun to me. I'll be like every other NCSoft MMO...tons of grind, pretty graphics, boring after a week, etc.
I'm extremely picky about my MMO's though. Even when I played WoW, I didn't like it. The only real MMO I've ever really liked was FFXI...lol.

I've heard it's basically "WoW with wings". Not sure if that's accurate.
Ones on the radar for me:
FFXIV
Stargate (??? game ever going to be finished?)
Jumpgate:Evolution (<3 space combat if it's done properly, sick of anything involving elves and orcs)
Possibly Champions online... but probably not...
Tried Warhammer for a bit, terrible.

You're just the weird opposite of everyone else DB! lol :P And that's why we love you!
FFXVI is definitely on my list when it does come out. I just grabbed the preorder/beta of Aion for $5 bucks at Gamestop, and I'm downloading it right now (it's going to take foreverrrrrrr and a day though), so we'll see. In a way I kind of want to play FFXI again. :X

Welp, apparently Aion beta testing is only on certain weekends, so it took me the whole day to download and install it, but now I can't play till Friday. XD Let me know if anybody else will be on! :)
Heard a lot about it but not really that interested. FFXIV does have my attention though. And so does Star Wars The Old Republic

I'm not interested in anything at the moment, except for Stargate Worlds when it finally will decide to release. I've got so much on my plate irl I haven't been playing much of anything. Oh, and I crashed my laptop with a glass of Sprite, so until it's fixed or replaced...I won't be playing anything period. But even if I could, I wouldn't play Aion...I get an uneasy feeling about it...don't know why though. It reminds me of stuff I'd see in a bad dream.

I suppose that's one way to uninstall Wine.

Kae, let me know what server you'll be on. Me and Zaph are on... er Siel? Seph? Something named similar to that, but if it gets confusing, I can build one where you are.
I played a beta about 3 or 4 betas ago, but frankly I wasn't impressed. You can spend hours... oooh, HOURS on character creation. My first time through a lot of stuff still hadn't been fully localized yet. I just didn't find it very exciting, but I know a bunch of stuff has changed since then so I'm willing to give it at least one more go.
The wings are cool, but I only got as far as obtaining those.

Almost too late now, but I'm on the one that starts with a "Z"...whatever the rest of it's name is lol. My name is Kaeyana (16 cleric so far) and I started a legion for the beta so feel free to come play! I'm really enjoying it so far (as I'm sure you can tell by me not responding till now XD). It's like a weird combination of Guild Wars (art style), WoW (similar spell/ability interface, ability to solo), and Age of Conan(healers can actually deal a little damage!!).
The good things:
-Holy crapnuts you can spend forever making a character. There is so much customization! Oooooo, shiny...
-It has a quest-based way of leveling up like WoW, but the quests aren't really tedious. You still get plenty of exp from killing mobs, too.
-Nice graphics. Very pretty and not exactly the same as other MMOs. I love the way my cleric casts things.
-It's not too difficult to learn, but not so easy that I'm bored. -They have a combo-system that works better than AoC's (imo). It tells you when to use the next move (it pops up big on the screen and glows on the bar), and also allows you to press the same button you did for the first move as long as the second combo move is somewhere on your bar.
-I don't HAVE to group if I don't want to. And quite frankly I don't want to in a beta. So this makes me happy.
-HEALERS CAN SOLO. I repeat: HEALERS. CAN. SOLO. We wear mail and use a shield. That is all. Thank you.
-The aggro system rocks. It's way more realistic. If you're behind an aggroing mob, it won't aggro you unless you're right next to it. If you're in front of an aggroing mob, the range of aggro is shorter than that of FFXI or WoW. Well, in WoW's sense, it's not based off the mob's level. I haven't gone back to check if "grey" mobs still aggro you.
-The classes are neato. They actually have a summoner!
-They have a bazaar-like system! Yes, yes, no worries, there's still an AH, but you can plop down anywhere you want and sell your goods at your own store for whatever price you want. No extra fees. I sound like a saleswoman already!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The bad things:
-The "mob claim" system. I can't figure it out really, but I think it's whoever deals the most damage wins the prize. I guess it's no different than someone stealing your mob in WoW or FFXI, but man does it still make me mad when I'm trying to kill a mob and some team of 3 people runs in, murders it, and I get no credit.
-The death system. AUGH. When you die, if you don't get rezzed, which isn't likely, you get ported all the way back to wherever your Oblisk/homepoint is...sigh. Long walks are not my friend. However, there are flight points, so that makes it a little better - I r just cheap.
-The flight system: Though cool, it disappointed me a little. You are limited to only 1 minute of flight before you fall out of the sky with your first wings, and you can only fly in certain areas. :(
-Annoying load times. Well, for me anyway. I play on a laptop so it takes a good 5 minutes for the game to come up. The game runs fairly smoothly once I'm in, though. There isn't any "zoning" unless you're going from one continent/island to another.
Overall, so far I'm rating it at a 8.5/10 for MMOs. Please keep in mind that I'm only level 16, so I haven't seen the whole game. I don't know what the level cap is really so who knows how much I've seen. I'm just grading based on my current experiences. :) Now excuse me while I go play some more Aion! :3
Reason why you can't fly in certain zone is because of the lore(I could be wrong, they can change it anytime). You can't fly in ceratin areas because of the low concentration of Aethers.
When you get to the Abyss LV20+ where there is an abundant of them, you can fly all the time.
I like the game so far. I'm not too thrill about the Abyss, but I think I can handle the PvP aspect of it. Since most of time in WoW was pvping.
The game is beautiful.
You guys mention grindy, well not as much of what you call grindy, like WoW is grindy when you think about it, so is FFXI (group exp on same mobs over and over, you can't even lv off quests or missions). Try to look pass the Korean stuff, I know most (majority) korean games are grindy, and they are. It all depends on how you define it. Aion, you do quests for exp (solo or group) you can grind off mobs if you like, solo or with a group.
Bottomline--
Group grind exp = FFXI
Quest grind (mobs too) = WoW
Both = Aion
Whatever floats your boat.
Oh there's cutscenes too from quests and missions.
Anyways I'll be playing on release, something new, until FFXIV.
:)
