Vrtra Screenies(Opeth) - Begining fight - Death (http://66.8.203.111/FFXI_SS/Dragons/Vrtra/)
Other two Dragons - Tiamat and Jour are in Parent directory (http://66.8.203.111/FFXI_SS/Dragons/), check it out too. They make it seem easy, alliance almost full HP with drops showing, but then again it's just screenshots.

Wow, the death of Vrtra..... I dont know what to say about that, but good job to them. I am curious on how they did it though. Looking at the paladin, looks like he induce poison to advoid the Sleepaga 2 he will cast. Either Way, that is a Great find ^_^

Paladins using Poison Pots never made sense to me. For one thing, unless you are a terrible Paladin, you're going to have hate and you're going to get hit almost immediately after he casts the spell anyway -- even if you're kiting you still 'pause' for a second or two when you are put to sleep until your next tick occurs.
Unless Vrtra has Poisonga IV (which no ones ever reported him having), there's really no logical reason those PLD were using them. White Mages, yes I can see and understand their reason for using them. Not for Paladins though; you just don't stay asleep long enough as a tank for it to be this massive problem. Having hate ripped isn't an issue if you have a team that's working with you at all times.
Also, they showed the tanks kiting (Vrtra at least), which you *really* don't want to do on Wyrm HNM. I still abide by the belief he DOES have the chance to Spike Flail, and even if that chance is incredibly low his Dragon Breath has a very high chance to kill you if you're kiting -- if you kite, he's staring right at you and you're in the his death zone when he breathes on you.
Yeah, it shows they beat them, but look at how long it took them for each one. The other two were 3 hours, Vrtra was 4 -- that's an indication that they used the often tried Japanese method of DoT spells. Basically, they just kept up Bio II, 3 elemental debuffs, and Poison II and made it a war of attrition. That's a long and drawn out way, and it's not really a strategy at all; it's more of a "let's just stay alive and hope it'll die and occassionally attack" kinda thing.
Yes, kudos to them for bringing him down, but it's not really much of an accomlishment when you just use the same slow and tired DoT method on everything because you're too lazy to devise a strategy.

It took them exactly 3 hours and 21 minutes to beat him. In case you were wondering, you can tell because they started at 7:47 Windsday and ended 18:32 Lightsday.

That's OK. :) It's nice having Tiamat as part of the scenery, rather than something that is camped/claimed, never there for the passersby to see.

Whether it takes them 1hr or 4 hrs I'll give my /clap to them. They deserve their due props for taking that beast of dragon down. Just gotta give them the respect they deserve and not belittle an accomplishment no matter how they did it, cause doing it (vitra death) is accomplishment enough imo.
Now who wants to be in the first NA ls in this server to kill this sucka? /em raises hand. hehe, Maybe we should try something easier like jourg. Iceygamer just informed me last night while I was farming jujitsu gi with him that a kraken like staff that does 2-3,4 or so in a swing drops from Jourg. Sounds sexah. Aside from this, I know there's been some talk of this, but nothing too seriously yet.
Maybe once we beat those AA Alliance. One goal at a time right?

Actually I'm pretty sure I've seen a few JP players with the title "Tiamat Trouncer" a while ago. I know Jormungand has been attempted by FM, as to whether or not they won I don't know. Vrtra...well yeah I'm almost positive he's still unbeaten on Carbuncle. Sure would be an interesting fight.
what are you talking about lol. tiamat is the easiest of the three...
i think it goes
tiamat < Jourg < vrtra
just b/c of the magic aggro VT IT bombs in uleg range....and the endless spawns of undead for vrtra.

Not really.
If Behemoth didn't draw in once you left his circle, I could kite him around the entire dominion with Requiem VI (if it would ever land on an HNM) and kill him in 2 hours roughly. That's not an accomplishment.
I respect linkshells that take the time for formulate a strategy and watch their aggressiveness on a big kill monster. I don't respect people that slap DoT spells on and just wait it out. That's not strategy -- that's laziness and an inability to really think for yourself. That's a cheap tactic that doesn't require any thinking of any kind when engaging a monster. They still do it on Fafnir/Nidhogg, but since they can't kite they just stand there and do an endless supply of Aerial Armor.
If Nephilim were to take on Tiamat, and use an actual battle plan, but take 3-4 hours to kill him (due to not much experience with HNM fights), then I would respect that. You're going in with an intelligent plan and trying to think of all possble scenarios. Going in with everyone /SMN, slapping on DoT spells, and just waiting him out is as close to cheating as you can get in this game.

Well you can't really compare behemoth to Vrtra, but ic your point. It's true this ls might of took a very passive strategy to win - one that didn't require upfront tactics.
Whatever tactics they used, what I'm trying to point out here is the ability of owning Vrtra is to not be taken lightly. I'm no expert of HNM, but from my understanding this purple dinosaur packs more of a punch than Barney. From the vt-IT mobs in the room, to the smns it use and the massive aoes of Vrtra, it's a tough sucka.
I remember when perfection first posted in KI forums about beating Kirin's (ant i think), right away some people started to belittle their victory. Sure others have beat him on other servers blah blah, but they still deserve a /clap for beating him. It's more about an appreciation of victory. Discussing the hows and/ifs and what nots is not my point.
My point - Vrtra is a bad@#@. No one on our server has won even with any passive or agrressive strategy. So that's why I /bow and congratulate them on a job well done. True some have put more strat and planning involved, but thats not the point.

You can compare any HNM in this game to any other, because at the time of their addition, said HNM was designed to be the 'king' HNMs. Going in without any way to conteract the poison of Serket's AoE is as deadly as ignoring the Antlions and Corse that surround Tiamat. Ignoring King Behemoth's Meteor can kill you just as fast as Kirin's Stonega IV. Not positioning Byakko correctly can wipe your alliance just as quickly not positioning yourself right on Fafnir/Nidhogg. Every HNM in this game is equal to every other in terms of easiness and difficulty -- they all have a 'trick' to being defeated and once you learn how to avoid their worst attacks you're good to go.
The new Wyrms themselves have HP somewhere between Fafnir and Nidhogg, and don't regen very quickly. They actually hit slower than the above mentioned two by a large margin. I was watching members of Quake's LS and GreyRabbit members take on Vrtra, and while they didn't win they did help me to see he really isn't as bad as people make him out to be (If they had more people to take care of the undead they'd have had him) -- his defense is weaker than the other two (Ranged attacks were doing around 60-80 compared to Jorggy's 30-50), his HP about the same, and he's even slower to attack; I went later as a 26 RDM as a suicide run to see how hard he hit (RDM/BLM, nekkid). He drew me in, casted blindga, and then hit me about 6-7 seconds later for a crit of 660; he was literally just standing there that long.
His problem, like the other two CoP Wyrms and Aspidochelone, are the aggroing monsters surrounding them. That becomes the challenge, not that actual monster. You take away the monsters and the actual Wyrms themselves are actually easy in comparison to Nidhogg. Their programming also has several flaws; when FM tried Jorggy the bombs and elementals were our downfall but the dragon wasn't so bad. However, he was prone to having fits of stupidity and would stand there for up to 2 minutes at a time just drawing in and doing nothing else -- half of us thought he was asleep.
The new Wyrms aren't that bad, and if you just had to fight them Nephilim could take them no problem. It's just the amount of crowd control you need in addition to the actual HNM is what makes them 'difficult'; I guarrantee you if you had to fight Kirin around Decorative Weapons people would be saying he's impossible too.
Finally, I did not 'belittle' their defeat of him. I congratulate them for killing him (and to the bard that recieves his Sha'ir/Shiekh Manteel), but I don't respect the cheap method of taking him out.

Did you just stand there like bumps on a log while Bio II ate his health away? No, I didn't think so. Large number != poor killing; it shows that the members of NG are dedicated to each other and actually cared enough to show up. If you have 30+ members and are using the cheap DoT method of killing something, then I would say not only can you not brew a strategy but you're also dragging people along for no reason other than to make them come. I'm not in NG but it's my understanding if you have 30 people at Genbu, it's because those 30 people want to be a part of killing him even if it's just tossing out a cure.
If you have no aggressive monsters to worry about, and the monster himself didn't summon anything (Vrtra, Kirin, etc.) then you could use DoT with 4-6 people. NIN/WAR, WHM/SMN, RDM/BLM, SMN/WHM is about the minimum you could do anything with if you were going for pure blink tanking and DoT. That amounts to 2 hours+ per kill for a no-brain method and 4 very bored people.

I like you^^ lololol You're the only person I see using DoT is disrespectful in a fight with anything(HNMs I guess). While other ppl struggle to form cross alliances with other LSes and failed, and others do it with their LS and win. So I'm guessing most LSes(Carbuncle) beat Kirin in 45mins-1 1/2 hour then? While taking 3 hours to beat Vrtra is disrespectful, knowing there's ton of mobs to handle including summoning mobs. You think everybody can just go in where Vrtra is just DoT for the win? Honestly I would love to see that boring fight using DoT on Vrtra from our server.
