I found this interview with one of the directors for the new Star Trek game, Star Trek: Legacy. Unlike the bajillion other failed Star Trek games, this one looks like it actually has some potential. It's being made by Bethesda, so take that as you will. Anyway, here's the interview, I'm looking forward to seeing more about how this turns out:

Yeah I heard about this on penny arcade but i'm not holding my breath over it. Bethesda may make good elder scrolls titles but I dont know how they will do with fallout or star trek.

The worst thing that can happen to a good game francise is to have it available on PC and game consoles. Just look at what happened to the theif series.

I realy wish developers would get off this MMO, RTS, and FPS craze. they need to start creating games that push the envelope in other areas of interaction. I haven't seen a good story driven Space combat simulator since **** Freespace, wing commander, x wing vs tie fighter. Heck they could have made a killer simulator off of the babylon 5 universe but that all feel through (even though they do have this russin guy doing one called "I found her" i should post the link). If they put the right people together they could make a killer Battlestar Gallatica game not some crappy TV show to video game port.

GOOD Star Trek Games:

Star Trek - Birth of the Federation (It's basically Master of Orion in the Star Trek universe. The game is a teeny bit buggy because it didn't catch on and wasn't patched enough, and ship combat leaves a little to be desired, but as far as space-empire building games with diplomacy and such go, it's an awesome game)

Star Trek - Klingon Academy (This game has movie footage with General Chang and Chancellor Gorkon from Star Trek VI. In many ways, this game is a PREQUEL to Star Trek VI... from the Klingon side of things. This game is a flight-sim / Tactical combat game. If you can get used to piloting a Klingon Dreadnaught with a JOYSTICK, this game is freaking awesome. You don't just fly and shoot. You manage communications, security, power, engineering, damage control, etc. It gives you such precise control of all the ship's functions, that it is possible to cloak, instruct your engineers to overload all your forward disrupter bays, decloak, unload a salvo at your enemy's rear shields, thus disabling them, beam over a strike team to the enemy ship with instructions to take out the engine room, recloak your ship, and then instruct your engineers to get to work repairing your now damaged-as-hell overloaded disruptors, and fly away.... all with a few pushes of a button. GREAT plot, GREAT combat, GREAT game. My only problem with it was that the enemy AI tends to enjoy playing "Chicken" with you, which can result in some unfortunate ship collision. What happens when the Enterprise rams a Bird of Prey? Bad things. Of course... on the plus side, if you want to RAM stuff, it is a perfectly viable strategy. And sometimes, if you're in a big enough ship, and you're THAT badly damaged... it might be your last alternative. It is a good day to die!)

Star Trek: Elite Force was moderately amusing... but I freaking hate Voyager.
