well, several of us im sure will want the Optical hat in the not so distant future, so i am hoping we can maybe arange a night of eye hunting, not to be confuse with easter egg hunting. Here is what i know:

Burning Hakutaku Eye: droped by "Thousand Eyes" in King Ranp's Tomb lvl 60- 62.

Damp Hakutaku Eye: droped by "Dodomeki" in Ifrit's Cauldron lvl 63-69.

Earthen Hakutaku Eye: droped by "Blubber Eyes" in Sea Serpent Grotto lvl 55- 58.

Golden Hakutaku Eye: droped by "Mindgazer" in Sea Serpent Grotto lvl 66-69.

Wooden Hakutaku Eye: droped by "Million Eyes" in Den of Ranco lvl 73-76.

this is the information i know, i have personally seen "Dodomeki" and "Mindgazer", so i know ther spawn areas, as for the rest im not sure, perhaps some of you know. Note this is just to gather the single eyes not to make the cluster or fight Hakutaku itself...not yet at least lol. If i find more info ill post it here, but maybe we can do this some evening this week or next weekend.

Let me level some, then I'd love to tag along. (Hopefully there is an Optical Hat in my future, too.)

PS: Hakutaku is a long fight. Blms are key to this fight and a nice high lvl tank with a few whms to focus cure/prara on him. We almost have enough lvl 70+s in the ls to get this done. When more people finish collecting the eyes/cluster you can look foward to some fun in the den. This hat helps melee out a grip!

Hakutaku isn't that long of a fight, usually lasts about 10-12 minutes. You only need two to three BLMs to nuke any adds to death and to stun the NM. The NM isn't physical resistant or magic resistant, just has a lot of hp. As long as you stun it's ancient magic and -ga spells, take care of adds fast, and have at least two tanks, it's an easy fight. If you have any other questions about collecting eyes and/or need help collecting them, send me a /tell in game. Good luck and have fun.

I know that a lot of people are planning on doing some eye hunts in the next couple of weeks, so I thought I'd put a little information together to help everyone find and camp the eyes.

In General
========

Eyes aggro by sound, but do not link. They can and will cast ancient magic, so nin sub and/or stun ability is highly recommended. All of the eyes can easily be silenced by level 70 mages (not bards and summoners), so bring a mage friend along if you can.

Thousand Eyes
===========

This is one of the easier eyes to find and fight. To get to them, zone into King Ranperre's Tomb from the East Ronfaure H11 entrance. Keep going south; you will eventually go underground and come back up into a maze-like area. This maze-like area contains 2 centers (one contains a platform with an opening and one contains a platform with a ???). You want the center with the ??? and that is further west (H10, I believe). Touch the ??? and you will be ported underground. (Those that have partied here will know the ??? I'm talking about. It is the zone line for the higher level area.). At this point, sneak yourself, because everything here will aggro you, even if you are 75. Go straight (south, I believe) and you will eventually run into some Thousand Eyes.

You can camp in the tunnel right before you run into them, but beware the bat there. You will likely need to keep it killed, so it doesn't aggro you while you fight the eyes. The eyes spawn quickly (on 5-10 minute timer?), but are also heavily camped by other eye hunters and BSTs. They can be trio'd by level 70s quite easily (I don't recommend a duo if you are level 70 because of the potential bat add. It is very hard to sleep this bat unless you bring a bard, and it can and will take you down if you are not careful).

Dodomeki
=======

This eye is not that hard, but it spawns in a dangerous area. Zone into the west entrance of Ifrit's Cauldron. Follow the pathway until you come into an open area. There are bombs here that aggro to magic and sight and bats that aggro to sound at night. You will need to use silent oil and prism powder; don't try to cast magic once you're near the open area. Once you reach the open area, head for the opposite side, veering to your right. You should be able to see a cave on that right wall; go in there. There are gobbies, bats, bombs, and scorpions here, so keep sneak and invis up. DON'T CAST MAGIC. Go straight until you pass the area where the scorpions spawn (part of the tunnel where you can go right). Don't go right though, just go straight pass that branch, but don't go outside.

You can camp right there, just pass the scorpion area. You will pass some Dodomekis on your way; pull those. There are also some Dodomekis if you go outside and go into the next tunnel, but I don't recommend pulling them unless you like clearing bombs. If you camp too close to the outside, you can aggro bombs with magic, so try to stay as close to the scorpion area as possible if you are a caster. It is quite easy to duo these eyes at 75. If you are much lower, I definitely recommend bringing a party for efficiency's sake. The Dodomeki's here can be camped sometimes by eye hunters, but they spawn quickly enough that it shouldn't be a problem for you.

Blubber Eyes
=========

I have never hunted these eyes personally myself, so I don't really have a good walkthrough for them. The good thing, though, is that that they are the weakest of the eyes and can be easily soloed by a level 75 melee with nin sub (though they might take a while to kill). To get to them, zone into Sea Serpent's Grotto from the jungle and head to the lake area. People lower than 65 (maybe 60?) will need sneak once in the lake area. To get to the lake area, follow the right wall from the zone until you see an Ornamental Door. If you are facing the door, you will want to head left from there. It should bring you to the lake area. Immediately upon hitting the lake area, swing a right, go under the bridge, and head to the Mythril door at H11. You will need a mythril beastcoin to open the door; the coin will be returned to you, so don't worry.

2 Blubber Eyes spawn immediately behind this door, and you can camp right at the door. There are also some eyes further in, but I've never camped these, so I don't know for sure. I do know that you will need sneak, unless you are 75. Even if you are 75, I would sneak anyway, as NMs can spawn here that will aggro you.

Mindgazers
========

These eyes are not hard (same difficulty as Ifrit's), but are annoying to get to. There are 2 ways to get to them.

If you are too cheap or lazy for a Sahagin's Key, but don't mind fighting a slow spawn (14 minute timer), you can pull one Mindgazer by standing right under the bridge at the lake area in Sea Serpent's Grotto (see the instructions above on how to get to the lake area). This Mindgazer is the only one accessible to everybody, so it can be very heavily camped, both by eye hunters and farmers.

The other way to get to the Mindgazers is to get your hands on a Sahagin's Key and open the Ornamental Door. I won't detail how to get a Sahagin's Key here, but basically it requires you to speak to 2 Sahagin NPCs (one which is in an area that will aggro 75s) and to trade a gold beastcoin (returned to you), a silver beastcoin (returned to you), and a norg shell and 3 mythril beastcoins (will be taken from you). If you mess up and zone before finishing the quest or it is your second time, you will need to fork over a gold beastcoin rather than 3 mythrils. You can fish a norg shell from the lake using any rod or bait, as long as they don't target any fish from the lake (I used composite and found live bait (lugworms) to the best. You can use lures too (e.g. minnow) but don't be too surprised if your line snaps if you're too low level for the lake). Having fishing mogenhacement really helps with fishing the shell, also. BTW, you can and will fish up monsters (including a pugil that is DC to 75s), so be forewarned!

Once you have the Sahagin's Key, use it on the Ornamental Door (see instructions above on how to get there). The key will open the door for everybody, but it breaks once used and the door closes fairly quickly. It might be possible to open the door from within, but I've never tried. Once in, sneak up...everything here will aggro even 75s. Go straight, cross the bridge, and head into the open area. Look for a targetable sliding door on your right. It should be in a little side area free of mobs. You can camp right there. Mindgazers spawn right in front of the door and also behind it. Some nice NMs also spawn past the door if you want to fight them for money and bard scroll drops. These eyes are rarely ever camped (too expensive to get to), so you will probably have free rein of this area. Be careful when pulling the eyes; you can aggro Sahagins and they will link.

Millioneyes
========

This is the hardest eye to fight, both because it is the highest level eye and because it spawns in a really annoying area. I recommend at least a full party of you are not all 70+. If you get aggroed, especially by a jelly, you will have a hard fight ahead of you. Be careful of linkage. Everything but the eyes link. If you get adds, sleep them immediately. Bats will resist blm sleep, so don't try sleeping those unless you have a bard.

To get to these eyes, you need to go the coffer side of Temple of Uggelipeh, and head to the room with the paintbrush door. Basically, go through the temple as you would have for ZM4. You will need sneak and invis if you are lower than 70. You will need to fight the temple guardian to get to the paintbrush room, so have your stunners ready in case it wants to self-destruct. Once in the paintbrush room, you will need someone with a paintbrush to open the door. Once the door is open, zone into Den of Rancor.

Everything here will aggro even 75s, so sneak and invis up again. Head SSE (basically mostly south, but a little east). You want to go into the passageway at G7. From that G7 passageway, go south. Once you pass G9, if your invis drops, don't worry too much about it. The mobs at that point will only aggro to sound. Keep going south all the way to H13. If you go south enough, eventually you will be on another map. Keep an eye out for this transition if you don't have a map, because suddenly you will go from H13 to H8/I8-9. Once you are on the second map, follow the left hand wall. You will loop around and eventually come to an area with lanterns, tonberries and Millioneyes. There is also a ??? here (this is the spawn for Hakutaku).

You can camp the Millioneyes on the ledge area to the right (right if you face the lanterns). There will be one Millioneyes that pops in this camp, so you will need to kill it first, but otherwise it is clear of mobs. DO NOT DROP DOWN OFF THE LEDGE. You will not be able to get back very easily. You will find a total of 5 eyes here (more if you go further away). This area can be camped by Haku parties, BSTs duos, and eye hunters, but the mobs spawn at a decent rate (10 minute pop?). You will need the clear the tonberries that spawn here to get to some of the eyes, so make sure your rancor is low.

So, that's it for eye hunting! If you have any additional questions, don't hesitate to ask on this forum.

About the Sahagin Key, it's one shot deal, I dunno if the person opening it can open from behind, but I have tried to open it from behind, but doesn't open. No silent oil, no warp, you're trap, unless you can get someone to teleport you from behind the door.

Blubby eyes are weakest to 75s, they don't do any harm(maybe cuz I kill it fast ^-^ 75DRK/thf) only thing that will argo in Blubbly eye area to 75s are NMs, if you're hunting eyes only, don't kill Sahagin or it'll lottery spawn NM.

I believe there is another exit on the other end from the ornamental door, but it might be a one-way out. Either way, once you're past the ornamental door be prepared to stay until all the eyes are gotten.

As for the eyes, all of then will cast Ancient Magic so either kill them really fast (like Mel), keep them silenced, or just take the hit and laugh in the face of danger (i.e. me... btw, thanks Zeph for the raise).

Blub and Thousand Eyes:

Although SAMs aren't know as a solo'ing class, I went in with /nin sub. With both utsusemi and third eye, i was able to do pretty well but I still took dmg. The eyes can be silenced by the Great Katana. It would be good to bring potions or silent oil to help healing/resting. I got annoyed with all the agros when I was resting.
