Mission 5-1

I know that doing mission 5-1 was sort of discussed a week or two ago, but was anything, like a date, ever made for it or was it just something we sorta just brought up? I'd really like to get it done, but I don't mind waiting for more people to hit 50 before we do it either. Just curious. :D

I wouldn't mind setting it up if everyone wants to. Unfortunately, it's just something I wouldn't be able to attend. I won't attempt it til I hit level 50, prolly with Ranger, but I am taking time to level NIN as a sub before I do, because a level 40+ with a level 17 as a sub is just ridiculous. It shows a lack of commitment on my behalf to the job.

That being said, it's as much my duty to plans events that I can't attend as it is to organize the ones I can attend, so I'll go ahead and start with a few pointers.

Since we are doing the Death Day May 5th and that's not too far ahead, let's take that opportunity to do some LS chat. Let me throw out a date of May 7th for the Mission 5/1 and 5/2 runs. Both end with a BCNM type fight, the first against Archlish Taber'quoan, a NM skeleton, with weaker mob of 6-8 skeletons. The second is against the Shadowlord, with I am told is a 2 stage fight (old fashioned rpgs had the boss in multiple different forms, FFXI no different I guess). I believe the pure chat time we'll have while K.O.d in Jueno will give us plenty of time to focus on discussing fight strategies and preparations.

For that, however, I will have to turn the floor over to Melmeow, Bloodscream, Bakslash, Kethry, Asurra, and a few others, that are more well versed in the fights and in level 50 combat tactics.

A note is that unless I misunderstand, only 6 ata time can go into the fights, so the LS may mass-haul thru Fei'yin, but we really need to be thinking of forming parties now, who will go with who and whatnot.

I'll leave the rest to the forum for now, please tell me what you think about the whole mission.

Sari is correct that these are BCNM-style fights that limits the number of people to 6. This limits the effectiveness of a large group. However, having a large group does bring two benefits: to help clear a path to the arena and better mix-and-match parties.

Each team should form their strategy based on the party makeup, but here are the common things to look out for:

Mission 5-1

There is a single main NM plus all its minions. You just need to kill the NM to complete the mission. So, depending on your party configuration figure out how you can kill the NM the fastest while protecting whoever needs protections. For example, if your pt consists of a BLM tarutaru you don't want all the minions going after him. Determine how to protect the BLM while unleashing as much dmg as possible on the NM.

Mission 5-2

I would highly recommend a balanced PT of mages and melees because this is a fight in two parts. The first part is for the melees who needs to kill the NM as fast as possible. The reason for speed is because you want to allow the mages to conserve MP (primarily the healer). It is often recommended that BLMs don't participate in the first part to conserve MP for the second part. The second part is done by mages since the NM is immune to physical attacks. The melee's role is to hold agro while mages deal dmg. Watch out for massives AOE and protect the mages!

Other than that, it's the usual stuff for any PT. Get your food and gears ready (remember the cap!), set up your macros (don't start trying your lvl 55 WS only to find out it isn't available). If you feel that the mages' MP might the tight help out with some healing potions, etc. so they can conserve MP.

I have heard from a few people that it's best to wait for mission 5-2 until you're around level 60. Is it possible to do it with a good group earlier, or would it be best to wait? I'm in no rush myself.

well my main LS has done this already without me since i went to church :( but it does have a lvl50 restriction to it ^^ ... i am speaking of m5-1 ... fei'yin will be quite easy, mages might have it easy as long as they are at least 48 whm and a pld that HAS to be 50 other than that, my blm @ 46 can be in there, some trouble though ^^ other than that i heard it is a pretty easy mission... they will be moving on to m5-2 once people start hitting lvl 55

but count me in, and if anyone can in-game, remind me may4th about the death ^^ i might forget lol :D
