Not really, it just re-distributed the amount of money put into buying marbles.

If the odds of winning a rank 5 prize were 1 in 10, and each character could buy 10 marbles, you were guaranteed that prize (edit: If you strategically bought marbles with 10 different last digits). Now, assuming most people used this strategy, 837,417 is also the number of characters who participated in the lottery. 837417 x 10,000g = 8,374,170,000 gil was spent.

So, according to this rough calculation, gil was actually *removed* from the economy (again, though, not all people won a rank 5, so it's not exact).

Edit: Also assumes everyone goes for the gil, and not equipment.

Why is it that some people insist on seeing the negative in life rather than the positive?

If I checked my numbers correctly, I have 2 Rank 4 and 10 Rank 5 prizes among my toons. Do I wish I'd have won a black belt or some major gil? Of course, anyone would. Do I begrudge Sumin or anyone else's good fortune? No, not in the least. I had fun leveling my mules so they could participate and I made back the gil I spent on marbles. More than sufficient I'd say.

Congratulations to all who had fun and to all who won, regardless of how large or small that prize may be.

Well personally i got 100 marbles and got like 5 exp scrolls in prizes on my mules so whoopie I flushed 100K down the FFXI toilet. I was hoping for a Behemoth hide or 2 save for some dusk stuff but oh well. I am glad Sumin got some gilz at least. Personally I wouldn't feel all that safe telling people if I won the grand prize because I would be worried someone would try and hack my account. It could also be said if people found out about you being the grand prize winner you would have to blacklist a bunch of people for /telling your toon begging for gilz.

Just a post to all you Teir 4 winners. Before you go selling those precious Behemoth hides that you think you're going to get 300k for...keep in mind that there are roughly 15 on the AH now and its only getting 250k and probably gonna drop.

Going with a Behemoth Hide was definitely the way to go. Looks like everyone else with rank 4 prizes is getting Damascus Ingots and flooding the market with way more of those than hides. Got 230k for it in less than 5 min, so I'm happy with the results. Far better than picking the prize of only 100k instead. :D

Funny thing is when they announced the numbers, I checked them and didn't realize I had won anything >.>
I figured I'd trade all my bonanza balls to the moogle, just in case I had missed something, and sure enough the first one I gave him was a winner.
I can't believe I missed that. I'm so glad I double checked and didn't just toss the darn things. In my defense though, when I checked them at first, I had just woken up.
Also, I'm horrible with numbers sometimes. This is why I can't play bingo... yet I used to be an accountant haha.
